Aquaculture Research

Southern flounder

Aquaculture research programs in the Department of Applied Ecology range from applied studies on methods for rearing fish to fundamental research on mechanisms controlling reproduction and growth. Some faculty also engage in outreach efforts that serve the aquaculture industry, primarily in North Carolina. Species that are currently the focus of active research include hybrid striped bass, tilapia, yellow perch, southern flounder, blue crabs, and rainbow trout. In addition to laboratories on campus, our aquaculture research programs utilize several off-campus research facilities. Qualified students may be interested in theĀ Genomic Enablement of Aquaculture Fellowship Program.
