The Toolkit is an engaging and highly visual educational resource designed to teach pesticide safety to Spanish-speaking agricultural workers with limited formal education. Approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for Worker Protection Standard worker training, the Toolkit is available in Spanish and English for:

More about the Pesticides and Farmworker Health Toolkit
The standard Toolkit for each crop includes:
- Introductory DVD for trainers
- Flip-chart in Spanish (with discussion guide for trainers and colorful visuals illustrating the trainer’s message for the audience)
- One-page illustrated handouts in Spanish
- Interactive materials, including jug and labels and symptom charade cards
- Totebag.

The Toolkit was developed and produced by Dr. Catherine LePrevost, Dr. Greg Cope, and Julia Storm with funding from the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services’ Pesticide Environmental Trust Fund.
The Pesticides and Farmworker Health Toolkit has been enthusiastically received across North Carolina, with over 400 having been distributed. In 2011-2012, train-the-trainer introductory or in-depth workshops on the Toolkit were delivered at 34 events reaching 3,254 people, including growers, landscapers, agency personnel, farmworker outreach staff, student interns, AmeriCorps volunteers, and Cooperative Extension agents. Train-the-trainer workshops were praised for being interactive and engaging. An introduction to the Toolkit is included in the 2012-2014 Private Applicator Recertification V Training Curriculum, so growers will continue to learn about the Toolkit.

Other Pesticide Safety Programs
Extension pesticide programs address human health and safety for pesticide applicators, agricultural workers, and their families. In collaboration with the Pesticide Safety Education Program, training workshops and seminars are generally provided to over 400 individuals participating in county-organized pesticide training classes throughout the state each year.
