Conserving Mangrove Ecosystems

Here is a great, short article about global mangrove ecosystems: Forests between the Tides: Conserving Earth’s vanishing mangrove ecosystems. The article highlights mangrove forests around the world, a few close to home, like Cuba and the Southeast US, in addition to mangrove forests in Tanzania and Sri Lanka. It also discusses the research of a collaborator, Dr. Chandra Giri, and the work he has completed using Landsat satellite imagery to map mangrove coverage globally.

My general research interests lie in the ecology of marine coastal ecosystems. I am most interested in the role plant diseases have in shaping the ecology of coastal and estuarine environments. I am currently studying the role of a plant pathogen in a die-off of Red Mangroves in The Bahamas. Follow Ryann Rossi
