Who is Eating the Mangrove Periwinkles?

Previously I have posted about Checkered Puffers (see here and here). We believe they may consume Mangrove Periwinkles so we tethered snails to mangrove prop roots in Sandy Point yesterday. After only an hour, 60% of all the snails we tethered were completely missing or only shell fragments were left.

Our thought is that Checkered Puffer Fish are eating them off the prop roots as the tide comes in, making the Mangrove Periwinkles easier to reach. Our next step is to perform several more trials and use a GoPro to determine who the real culprit is!
